Your face is not the correct size or properly centered
"Your face is not the correct size or properly centered" is a message shown by State Department Photo Tool. The photo has the right pixel size but the head is too large in the frame or off-centre, so the tool cannot find enough space around the face. First step: Start from the uncropped original, with head, shoulders and some space above the head in frame.
Why it happens
The photo has the right pixel size but the head is too large in the frame or off-centre, so the tool cannot find enough space around the face. Photos cropped tightly by another app trigger this most.
What to do
- 1.Start from the uncropped original, with head, shoulders and some space above the head in frame.
- 2.Let our tool crop to the State Department head size (1 to 1 3/8 in, 25 to 35 mm, of a 2 x 2 in photo) rather than cropping by hand.
- 3.Upload the new file; the tool should now report nothing to crop.
Official wording
The photo submitted is the correct size, but your face is not the correct size or properly centered in the photograph. Please submit a larger photo with ample space around your face
