What trips people up

  • Check
Identical requirement to the Reisepass: 'Ein Passbild (Hochformat 35 x 45 mm) nicht älter als sechs Monate nach bestimmten Passbildkriterien (in Farbe)'. The portal lists 'Ein Passbild' for each document separately.
  • Check
Head about two thirds of the frame (roughly 30 mm) and never above 36 mm, eyes at least 8 mm apart, grey rather than white background: the BMI criteria are the same for every Austrian document.
  • Check
Colour only: black-and-white photos 'können für den Reisepass, Personalausweis und Aufenthaltstitel nicht verwendet werden'.
  • Check
The application is made in person ('muss persönlich eingebracht werden'); for a minor the child must be present for identification, 'ab der Geburt, daher auch ein Baby'. The card is posted within about five working days.
