For the Czech biometric občanský průkaz, whose facial image is recorded by the official who completes the electronic application at the municipal office or a designated Czech mission, so no photo is handed in. Not for a Czech passport (same capture rule, separate page) and not for a visa.

The office records your facial image when you apply for the identity card in person. See the Czechia documents we can prepare.

What trips people up

  • Check
Since 2 August 2021 the card carries biometric data, 'zobrazení obličeje a u občanů starších 12 let otisky prstů', and the application itself is created electronically by the official: 'Žádost o vydání občanského průkazu s biometrickými údaji pořizuje v elektronické podobě úředník ... a občan ji podepíše přes tablet.' No photo appears in the list of documents to bring.
  • Check
The Ministry's passport page states the rule in so many words ('fotografii pořizuje příslušný úřad při podání žádosti'); the identity-card page lists only the documents to present (previous card, birth certificate, proof of citizenship where in doubt), so the capture rule is inferred from the biometric procedure and the absence of a photo from that list.
  • Check
Applications are taken at any obecní úřad obce s rozšířenou působností; the 24-hour fast track is collected only at the Ministry in Praha 4, Na Pankráci 72; designated Czech missions abroad take applications with a 120-day issue time.
  • Check
A card can be ordered for a child under 15 by the legal guardian; the child is photographed at the counter like an adult.
