French Driving Licence Photo (permis de conduire, e-photo or photo-signature form): size and requirements
The French Driving Licence Photo size is 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 inches). Le fond doit être uni, de couleur claire (bleu clair ou gris clair par exemple). Le fond blanc est interdit.; head 71 to 80 percent of the photo height. Photo taken within the last 6 months. Last verified 2026-10-07 against Service-Public.gouv.fr (DILA) and France Titres - Agence nationale des titres sécurisés (ANTS).
For the identity photo in an ANTS driving-licence procedure (first licence, renewal, duplicate): either an e-photo code from an approved photographer or a printed 35 x 45 mm photo glued to the postal formulaire photo-signature. Not for a passport or ID card, which accept approved photographers only.
Prefer an approved photographer for the e-photo code; a home-made print is only usable on the postal photo-signature form. See the France documents we can prepare.

What trips people up
- CheckThe ANTS form asks for a 'photo-signature numérique' (e-photo code). Only if you have no access to an approved photographer or booth does it offer the postal formulaire photo-signature (FPS) with a glued paper photo.
- CheckDo not reuse the photo from an old document: ANTS says the photo must be under 6 months old and warns that a photo from an older official document risks rejection.
- CheckThe paper photo on the FPS follows the identity-document norms: 35 x 45 mm, face 32 to 36 mm, plain light background (white forbidden), head bare.
- CheckIf your driving school registers you, fiche F2828 lists only '1 photo-signature numérique' among the documents it needs; the '1 photo d'identité ou 1 photo-signature numérique' choice appears only when you register yourself on ANTS. Agree the route with the school before printing.
