Iraqi Passport Photo (ICAO 35 x 45 mm reference; no readable national rule): size and requirements
The Iraqi Passport Photo size is 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 inches). Not stated by any readable Iraqi source; white is our rendering choice (the Iraqi e-Visa portal asks for white); head 70 to 80 percent of the photo height. Photo taken within the last 6 months. Last verified 2026-10-09 against Republic of Iraq, Ministry of Interior (passports directorate; site unreadable) and Iraqi Electronic Visa portal, with ICAO Doc 9303.
For the Iraqi passport (الجواز العراقي) issued by the Ministry of Interior's passports directorate inside Iraq or by Iraqi missions abroad. No national photo rule could be read, so this spec is the ICAO Doc 9303 reference frame only. Not for an Iraqi e-Visa (see iq/e-visa) or the unified national ID card.
Check with the passports directorate or Iraqi mission before buying: we could not read Iraq's passport photo rule, so treat our 35 x 45 mm ICAO print as a best guess, not an official format. See the Iraq documents we can prepare.

What trips people up
- CheckNo national rule was found. moi.gov.iq answers 403 to automated readers, the nationality directorate hosts do not resolve, and no Iraqi page with passport photo rules could be read. Every value here is the ICAO Doc 9303 reference frame (35 x 45 mm, head 70 to 80 per cent, six months), flagged as such.
- CheckAsk the passports directorate or Iraqi mission for its own photo instructions before printing; Iraqi offices and consulates are known to set their own counts, sizes and background colours that we could not read.
- CheckThe only Iraqi photo rule we could read is the e-Visa portal's: 'To apply, you need a valid passport and a digital photo with a white background.' A white background is therefore the safe choice.
- CheckICAO's own rule, which Iraqi electronic passports follow as machine-readable travel documents: 'Submitted portraits should be 45.0 mm x 35.0 mm (1.77 in x 1.38 in) in dimension.'
Source and verification
No national rule published; ICAO 9303 standard applies. Last checked 2026-10-09 (archived copy dated 2024-09-12) at Republic of Iraq, Ministry of Interior (passports directorate; site unreadable) and Iraqi Electronic Visa portal, with ICAO Doc 9303.
To apply, you need a valid passport and a digital photo with a white background.
Submitted portraits should be 45.0 mm x 35.0 mm (1.77 in x 1.38 in) in dimension.
The crown-to-chin portion of the facial image shall be 70 to 80 per cent of the longest dimension defined for Zone V, maintaining the aspect ratio between the crown-to-chin and ear-to-ear details of the face of the holder.
A submitted portrait shall have been captured within the last six months before application, as outlined in [ISO/IEC 39794-5].
Where the portrait is supplied to the issuing authority in digital form, the requirements specified by the issuing authority must be adhered to.
No Iraqi passport photo rule could be read on 2026-10-09: moi.gov.iq returns 403 directly and via the text proxy, iraqinationality.gov.iq and nationality.moi.gov.iq return curl 000 (no resolution). source.url is the only readable Iraqi government page about an identity photo; quote 1 from it concerns the e-Visa, not the passport (sources/iq/evisa-iq-instructions-en.txt). Quotes 2-5 are ICAO Doc 9303 Part 3 (sources/icao/, Wayback 2024-09-12) and supply every geometry value; archiveSnapshot is that excerpt's date. eligibility.officialWording is the ICAO sentence (quote 5) because no Iraqi sentence about who takes the passport photo exists in the saved sources; 'restricted' records that acceptance of an own photo is unknown. background 'white' follows the e-Visa portal and is a rendering choice for the passport; dpi 300, glasses and headCovering are defaults; printsRequired and child undefined.
