Macao SAR Passport Photo (DSI: 45 x 35 mm, white, bareheaded, studio or on-site, 6 months): size and requirements
The Macao SAR Passport Photo size is 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 inches). In plain white background; head 71 to 80 percent of the photo height. Photo taken within the last 6 months. Last verified 2026-10-10 against Identification Services Bureau (DSI), Macao SAR Government Portal - 'Macao SAR Passport' service page, with the passport FAQs and the DSI 'Photograph Specifications' sheet (DSI-52-M).
For the photograph used on a Macao SAR Passport (and the Macao SAR Travel Permit) issued by the Identification Services Bureau to Chinese nationals holding a Macao permanent resident identity card - at a DSI counter, a self-service kiosk or through the 'Macao One Account' app. The bureau accepts a studio print, its own free on-site photograph or a contracted studio's upload in 'My Photos'; it does not describe a home-made route. Not for the Resident Identity Card (12-month photo rule) or the Visit Permit to the Hong Kong SAR.
Let the DSI counter take the free on-site photo or use a contracted 'My Photos' studio: the bureau's wording names a photography studio for submitted prints, so a home-made print may be refused. See all Macao documents.

What trips people up
- CheckThe rule in the bureau's words: 'For the travel document photograph, applicants can choose to submit a 1.5-inch, color, bareheaded and full-faced photograph in plain white background which is taken at a photography studio within the last 6 months or use the photograph taken on-site at no cost'. The three routes are a studio print, the free counter photo, or a contracted studio's upload to 'My Photos' in the Macao One Account (receipt QR code shown at the counter, 'DSI will not charge any fee').
- CheckSize: the page says '1.5-inch'; the linked 'Photograph Specifications' sheet (DSI-52-M) labels the frame '45mm' by '35mm' with face heights '32mm-36mm' and '34mm-36mm' on its two diagrams headed 'At the age of 10 or above' and 'Below the age of 10'. The sheet's body text is drawn as outlines and could not be read, so which range belongs to which age group, and the under-10 rule, remain unconfirmed; we render 32-36 mm (71-80 %) as the adult band.
- Check'Bareheaded' is the bureau's word: no hat or head covering is mentioned as an exception on the pages we read, so we set head coverings to not allowed; ask DSI if you wear one for religious reasons.
- CheckRejection: 'If the photograph submitted or the image taken does not meet the requirements after examination, this bureau will request the applicant to provide another recent photo.' Kiosk and app applicants 'can choose to use the photograph taken at self-service kiosks or the photograph for identification documents in "My Photos" of the "Macao One Account" which is taken by a contracted photography studio within the past 6 months'.
- CheckRoutes and limits: kiosks and the app serve permanent residents aged 5 or above (on the card's latest issue date) whose passport expires within 9 months or has expired; losses, damage, representatives and expired identity cards go to the counter with a number tag. Under-18s need both parents or the guardian, and the app route needs the child's photo uploaded to the parent's account.
- CheckFees: 'Normal application: MOP 430', urgent +MOP 150; replacement for loss or damage +MOP 150 / 300 / 600 / 1,200 / 2,400 for the first to fifth time. Counters: China Plaza headquarters, the Venceslau de Morais and Islands service centres (Mon-Fri 09:00-18:00) and, on Wednesdays, the Hengqin services station.
