Malawi photo requirements

Malawi photo requirements are set by Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services (immigration.gov.mw); e-Visa portal evisa.gov.mw. We publish 2 documents: 1 passport and 1 visa. The most common print size is 35 x 45 mm (1.38 in x 1.77 in); 1 document accepts a digital upload. Each page quotes the official rule for size, head height, background and file, links the source we read, and shows the date we last checked it (most recently 2026-10-10).

Passports

Malawi Passport Photo (biometrics captured live at the Immigration Office; ICAO 35 x 45 mm reference)For a Malawian ePassport, as a reference only: the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services interviews every applicant at its Blantyre, Lilongwe or Mzuzu office and captures the picture, fingerprints and signature live, so no print is listed and the frame, head band and background here are the ICAO Doc 9303 defaults. Not for a Malawi e-Visa, which takes an uploaded scanned photograph (separate page here).35 x 45 mmnot publishedverified 2026-10-10

Visas

Malawi e-Visa Photo (evisa.gov.mw upload: scanned photograph, not a camera capture)For the photograph uploaded with a Malawi e-Visa application on evisa.gov.mw (transit, single-entry and 6- or 12-month multiple-entry visas, Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services), where the FAQ asks for scanned documents rather than camera-captured photos. No size, background or file rule is published, so the frame and head band here are the ICAO reference. Not for a Malawian passport, for which the office captures the picture live.35 x 45 mmnot publishedverified 2026-10-10
