What trips people up

  • Check
The eVisa notice itself is one line: 'You have to upload one COLOR PHOTO (4.6 cm X 3.8 cm) taking during last (3) months.' Note the unusual 4.6 x 3.8 cm frame; we render it at 300 dpi (449 x 543 px).
  • Check
Three months, not six: both the eVisa notice ('taking during last (3) months') and the ministry's eStay portal ('Taken within the last 3 months') use a three-month limit.
  • Check
The eStay portal (same ministry, stay-extension service) adds: 'In colour taken against a plain white background with no shadows', 'Full face with shoulders visible, facing forward with eyes open', 'Spectacles must be taken off.', 'Taken in formal attire', 'Neutral facial expression'. We follow these for the eVisa upload too, since the eVisa notice is silent on them.
  • Check
No scans of documents: 'Photos copied or digitally scanned from any documents are not acceptable.' (eStay wording).
  • Check
Also upload your passport bio-data page; the passport needs six months' validity: 'Your passport validity must have at least (6) months.'
  • Check
Approval letter validity and stay: 'The validity of eVisa approval letter is 90 days from the issued date.' and 'Length of stay is (28) days from the date of arrival in Myanmar.' Processing 'is minimum 3 working days (Myanmar time) for normal Tourist Visa.'
  • Check
Children under 7 on a parent's passport are entered in the minor section of the parent's form; the notice does not say whether they need a separate photo.

Known quirks of the official upload

  • Note
Apply only on evisa.moip.gov.mm (create an account, fill the form, pay by card, wait for the approval letter, print it for arrival). The live notice pages render blank to text readers; the rule above is from the ministry's own page as archived in August 2024.

Good to know before you pay

Any recent colour JPEG of you on a plain white background will upload; only the 4.6 x 3.8 cm proportion is unusual enough to need a crop.

Quotes 1-5 are from the eVisa 'Notice to Tourist' at source.url, read from the Wayback Machine capture of 2024-08-12 (sources/mm/evisa-notice-to-tourist-wayback.txt) because the live notice routes render no text to readers (sources/mm/evisa-notice-tourist.txt). Quotes 6-12 are from the ministry's eStay portal FAQ, https://estay.moip.gov.mm/home/faq, read live via r.jina.ai on 2026-10-10 (sources/mm/estay-faq.txt); they describe the eStay upload and are applied here because the eVisa notice is silent on background, glasses and expression.
