Philippine Visa Photo (temporary visitor's visa, 2 passport-sized prints): size and requirements

The Philippine Visa Photo size is 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 inches). Not stated by the DFA; white is our rendering choice; head 70 to 80 percent of the photo height. Photo taken within the last 6 months. Last verified 2026-10-08 against Department of Foreign Affairs, Office of Consular Affairs, 'Visa FAQs', with ICAO Doc 9303.

For the two passport-sized photographs attached to a Philippine temporary visitor's visa application lodged at a Philippine embassy or consulate by a national who is not visa-exempt and not eligible for the e-Visa. Not for a Philippine passport (captured at the DFA) and not for the online e-Visa, whose portal rules we could not read.

What trips people up

  • Check
The DFA publishes only '2 pieces of passport-sized photos;' as a core requirement; no millimetre size, head height, background or age is stated. We render the ICAO 35 x 45 mm frame with a 70 to 80 per cent head and a white background, and apply ICAO's six-month age limit (ICAO adds that portraits older than three months 'should not be accepted', so a fresher photo is safer).
  • Check
The core list is a minimum: 'Other documentary requirements may be requested based on your purpose of visit or visa subtype', and each Foreign Service Post publishes its own checklist, so confirm the photo count and size with the embassy you will file at.
  • Check
Nationals eligible for the Philippine e-Visa apply at evisa.gov.ph instead and upload a photo there; the portal's text could not be read from this network, so we do not publish its pixel or file-size rules.
  • Check
The core list ends with 'Payment of visa fees.'; nothing is published about how the two photos are to be attached to the form. Our suggestion, not a DFA rule: bring both prints loose so the post can attach them as it prefers.

Good to know before you pay

If you already have two recent 35 x 45 mm passport prints from a studio, they meet the DFA's 'passport-sized' wording; nothing else is specified.

No national rule published; ICAO 9303 standard applies. Last checked 2026-10-08 (archived copy dated 2024-09-12) at Department of Foreign Affairs, Office of Consular Affairs, 'Visa FAQs', with ICAO Doc 9303.

  • The core requirements for a temporary visitor’s visa are the following:
  • 2 pieces of passport-sized photos;
  • Other documentary requirements may be requested based on your purpose of visit or visa subtype to be applied for
  • Foreign nationals who are eligible for e-Visas may apply online through the official e-Visa website.
  • Payment of visa fees.
  • Submitted portraits should be 45.0 mm x 35.0 mm (1.77 in x 1.38 in) in dimension.
  • The crown-to-chin portion of the facial image shall be 70 to 80 per cent of the longest dimension defined for Zone V, maintaining the aspect ratio between the crown-to-chin and ear-to-ear details of the face of the holder.
  • A submitted portrait shall have been captured within the last six months before application, as outlined in [ISO/IEC 39794-5].
  • Portraits with a capture time dating back more than three months should not be accepted.

Quotes 1-5 are from the Visa FAQs at source.url (sources/ph/consular-dfa-visa-faqs.txt; quote 5 is core requirement 6, the last item of the list; the FAQ does not use a numbered visa designation such as 9(a), so none is claimed). Quotes 6-9 are ICAO Doc 9303 Part 3 (sources/icao/, Wayback 2024-09-12) and supply the size, head band and photo age, none of which the DFA states; confidence is therefore 'icao-default'. maxPhotoAgeMonths 6 follows the ICAO requirement sentence ('shall have been captured within the last six months', quote 8); the excerpt continues with the stricter recommendation in quote 9 ('more than three months should not be accepted'), which is quoted so the reader sees both. We keep 6 because it is the binding 'shall' figure, the three-month sentence is a 'should', and the DFA itself publishes no age; a photo under three months old satisfies both. printsRequired 2 follows '2 pieces'. background 'white', dpi 300, glasses and head-covering values are ICAO-style defaults and rendering choices. editing 'background-replacement-ok': the DFA publishes no retouching rule. child is left undefined (no child rule published). The Philippine e-Visa (evisa.gov.ph) is not authored: the portal is a JavaScript shell whose rule text could not be saved.
