Serbian Passport Photo (optional 50 x 50 mm, grey background): size and requirements

The Serbian Passport Photo size is 50 x 50 mm (1.97 x 1.97 inches). На једнобојној сивој позадини (on a single-colour grey background; the page gives no shade, we render light grey); head 70 to 80 percent of the photo height. Last verified 2026-10-10 against Република Србија, Министарство унутрашњих послова (Ministry of Interior), 'Биометријски пасош' (Документи грађана / Путне исправе).

For the optional printed photograph that a Serbian citizen may hand in with a biometric passport (биометријски пасош) application at a police directorate or station of the Ministry of Interior, or at a Serbian diplomatic mission, for adults and minors. The MUP page makes the photo voluntary: without one the counter captures your image. Not for the identity card (лична карта), a Serbian visa or a driving licence.

The counter captures your image for free; if you still want to hand in a print, make it exactly 50 x 50 mm, full face, on a plain grey background, and expect the clerk to compare it with the live capture. See all Serbia documents.

What trips people up

  • Check
Square, not 35 x 45: 'није обавезно, али се по жељи подносиоца захтева може приложити и фотографија величине 50x50мм („en face“), на једнобојној сивој позадини;' (not compulsory, but at the applicant's wish a 50 x 50 mm full-face photograph on a single-colour grey background may be attached). A standard EU-size print is the wrong shape.
  • Check
Grey, not white: the only background MUP names is 'једнобојној сивој позадини'. We render light grey; a white print is not what the page asks for.
  • Check
Optional: the photo is item 4 of the list that starts 'Захтев за издавање биометријског пасоша подноси се лично у полицијској управи или станици...'. If you bring nothing, the counter photographs you. Expect the clerk to judge any print you hand in against that live capture.
  • Check
No head size, photo age or print count is published for the passport; the 70-80 % head band here is the ICAO Doc 9303 reference, flagged, and one print is our default.
  • Check
In person, with an ID card: applications in Serbia need a valid лична карта; the passport form costs '4.200,00 динара' and the slip is generated on the eUprava portal.
  • Check
Timing: 'Полицијска управа, односно Полицијска станица у којој је поднет захтев за издавање путне исправе дужна је да реши захтев у року од 30 дана од дана подношења захтева.' (30 days; 60 days at a mission abroad; 48 hours in proven emergencies).
  • Check
Children: 'По Закону о путним исправама не постоји могућност уписивања детета у биометријски пасош родитељa.' (children cannot be entered in a parent's passport). Validity: 3 years under 3, 5 years from 3 to 14, 10 years over 14.
