Thai Passport Photo (หนังสือเดินทาง, photographed at the passport office): size and requirements
The Thai Passport Photo size is 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 inches). Not stated; the office camera uses its own backdrop. Light is our rendering choice; head 70 to 80 percent of the photo height. Last verified 2026-10-08 against กรมการกงสุล กระทรวงการต่างประเทศ (Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs), 'หนังสือเดินทาง' and 'เอกสารทำหนังสือเดินทาง', with ICAO Doc 9303.
For the Thai electronic passport, whose facial image, fingerprints and iris the Department of Consular Affairs records at the passport office when you apply in person, so no photo is handed in. Not for a Thai visa for foreigners, which is applied for online with an uploaded photo (separate page).

What trips people up
- CheckYou bring no photo: the Department's document-list page (published as images, with only its headings readable as text) shows no photograph requirement, and its Passport tip explains that the office itself records the biometrics: facial image, fingerprints and iris ('ภาพถ่ายใบหน้า การพิมพ์ลายนิ้วมือ และการบันทึกภาพม่านตา').
- CheckBecause the iris is scanned, 'ผู้ที่ใส่คอนแทคเลนส์ จึงควรใส่คอนแทคเลนส์ใสเท่านั้น': wear clear contact lenses only, no coloured or patterned lenses, so the natural iris can be recorded.
- CheckAn online queue booking is offered at qpassport.in.th ('จองคิวทำหนังสือเดินทาง ออนไลน์'). The document list is split by age at 20 ('ผู้บรรลุนิติภาวะ (อายุ 20 ปีขึ้นไป)' and 'ผู้ที่ยังไม่บรรลุนิติภาวะ (อายุต่ำกว่า 20 ปี)'), and for minors the page links consent and power-of-attorney forms ('หนังสือให้ความยินยอม', 'หนังสือมอบอำนาจ'); the lists themselves are images, so check them on the page.
Source and verification
No national rule published; ICAO 9303 standard applies. Last checked 2026-10-08 (archived copy dated 2024-09-12) at กรมการกงสุล กระทรวงการต่างประเทศ (Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs), 'หนังสือเดินทาง' and 'เอกสารทำหนังสือเดินทาง', with ICAO Doc 9303.

Quotes 1-2 are Thai, from the 'Passport tip' on the passport category page at source.url (sources/th/consular-mfa-passport-category.txt). Quotes 3-5 are the headings of the document-list page https://consular.mfa.go.th/th/publicservice/doc4passport (sources/th/consular-mfa-doc4passport.txt), whose adult and minor lists are published as images: only the headings, the queue-booking caption ('จองคิวทำหนังสือเดินทาง ออนไลน์', on the category page) and the links to the consent and power-of-attorney forms are readable text, so no individual document (ID card, birth certificate, parents) is named in any saved source and none is claimed. Quote 6 is ICAO Doc 9303 Part 3 (sources/icao/, Wayback 2024-09-12) and supplies the reference head band. The 'no' verdict rests on the biometric-capture statement plus the absence of a photograph from the readable text of the document-list page (its image lists were not OCR'd); the Department publishes no sentence saying 'do not bring a photo'. No saved Thai source mentions Thai embassies or applications from abroad, so scope covers the in-country passport office only. physical 35 x 45 mm / 300 dpi, background 'light', glasses 'discouraged' and headCovering are ICAO-style defaults and rendering choices. maxPhotoAgeMonths, printsRequired and child are left undefined (nothing is handed in). editing 'unaltered-required' is a conservative default for a document whose photo we cannot supply.
