What trips people up

  • Check
The portal checklist asks for a 'Digital passport sized photo in jpg' and links the poster for the rule; the poster's size line is for the print or capture frame: 'The photo shall not be larger than 45 x 35 mm (1.77 x 1.38 in) nor smaller than 36 x 32 mm (1.42 x 1.26 in) in height and width.' We render the full 35 x 45 mm frame at 413 x 531 px; no pixel count or file-size limit is published, so those two figures are our rendering choice.
  • Check
Head size and pose: 'The face shall be 70-80 percent of the photo size in length.', facing square to the camera (not portrait-style over the shoulder), eye line parallel to the top edge, both edges of the face visible, head and top of the shoulders in frame, nobody and nothing else in the picture.
  • Check
Expression and lighting: neutral expression, 'both eyes visible, and mouth closed', eyes open with no hair across them, natural skin tones, uniform lighting 'with no shadows or reflections on the face or in the background', no red eye. 'The photo shall not be more than 6 months old.'
  • Check
Glasses: eyes clearly visible 'with no lights reflected in the glasses', 'The glasses shall not have tinted lenses.', frames must not cover the eyes and heavy frames should be avoided. Head covers: 'Head coverings shall not be accepted, except in circumstances that the competent State authority specifically approves.' - religious, medical or cultural.
  • Check
Other checklist items: a valid e-mail, 'Passport must be valid for a minimum of 6 months', supporting documents in PDF (the division's revised list), a Visa or Mastercard; the fee is 'Multiple Entry Visa 800TTD', non-refundable, and holding an eVisa does not guarantee entry. Aircraft and ship crew need no visa.
  • Check
The poster is a Canadian Bank Note Company guide (v4.0) reused by the division; its Spanish column says the face should occupy 70 to 80 per cent of the photo's width ('del ancho'), while the English says length. We follow the English (height) reading, which also matches ICAO.
