UK Visa Photo (digital upload, online application): size and requirements
The UK Visa Photo size is 900 x 1125 pixels for online upload (minimum 600 x 750), file under 6 MB. Plain light-coloured background; head 60 to 80 percent of the photo height. Last verified 2026-10-07 against UK Visas and Immigration (Home Office).
For the digital photo of your face uploaded with an online UK visa or permission application (the former visa and BRP photo rules). Not for a British passport, which has its own upload, and not for a driving licence.

What trips people up
- CheckThe file limit is 6 MB, not the 10 MB HM Passport Office allows, and the photo must be a vertical JPEG at least 600 x 750 pixels. We render 900 x 1125 pixels.
- CheckUKVI will not accept the same photo that is in your passport or identity card, and it must not be a photo of a photo. Take a fresh one.
- CheckDo not mirror or flip the image: front-camera selfies are often saved mirrored, which the guidance explicitly forbids.
- Checkgov.uk says the photo must not be altered by computer software or filters. If your wall is already plain and light, use the keep-original-background option.
