Burkina Faso Passport Photo (photo captured live at the Division de la Migration; two 4,5 x 3,5 prints for minors): size and requirements

The Burkina Faso Passport Photo size is 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 inches). Not published; white is our rendering choice; head 70 to 80 percent of the photo height. Photo taken within the last 6 months. Last verified 2026-10-10 against Office National d'Identification (ONI), Ministère de la Sécurité, Burkina Faso - 'Le Passeport Ordinaire' service sheet (pièces à fournir, coût et validité, conditions de renouvellement), with the ICAO Doc 9303 Part 3 head band.

For a Burkinabè ordinary passport (passeport ordinaire) applied for at the Division de la Migration, where the ONI says every applicant attends in person because the photo and fingerprints are captured on the spot; only the file for a minor lists 'deux photos d'identité au format 4,5 X 3,5', so our 35 x 45 mm print is for a child's file or for a mission that asks for one. The head band, background and recency are the ICAO Doc 9303 reference because the ONI publishes none. Not for the CNIB, whose list names no photograph, nor for a Burkina e-Visa.

Adults do not need a photo - the office captures it live; for a minor's file you can make the two 4,5 x 3,5 prints yourself, since the ONI names no photographer and publishes no further rule. See all Burkina Faso documents.

What trips people up

  • Check
Adults are photographed at the counter: the e-passport reform brought 'une exigence nouvelle qui est la présence physique du demandeur car la capture de la photo et des empreintes digitales se font de façon instantanée.' and 'tout demandeur de passeport est tenu de se présenter physiquement au niveau de la Division de la Migration (DM), communément appelée « service des passeports » pour l'enrôlement.' The adult file is birth extract, nationality certificate, legalised CNIB copy, criminal record, proof of profession - no photograph.
  • Check
Minors: the 'Pour les mineurs' list adds a parental authorisation, both parents' CNIB or passports, legalised birth and nationality copies and 'deux photos d'identité au format 4,5 X 3,5' - two 4.5 x 3.5 cm prints, the only photograph the ONI names. Residence permits are also required if the parents live abroad outside ECOWAS.
  • Check
Fee and validity from the sheet: 'Passeport 50 000 Cinq (05) ans' - 50 000 F CFA for five years; the same conditions and costs as the pre-2018 passports, which stay valid until they expire.
  • Check
Married women taking the husband's name add a legalised marriage certificate; military and paramilitary applicants add a certificate of presence, a mission order and a leave decision. Renewal reasons listed: expiry, insufficient validity, loss, deterioration, theft, full pages, adding a spouse's name, corrections - losses and thefts are declared to the Division de la Migration for cancellation by the DGPN.
  • Check
No head size, background, expression, glasses or recency rule is published for the minor's prints; the 70-80 per cent head band, white background, six-month recency and the glasses and head-covering rules on this page are ICAO Doc 9303 defaults, flagged as ours.
