Djibouti Passport Photo (no requirement list published; ICAO 35 x 45 mm reference): size and requirements
The Djibouti Passport Photo size is 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 inches). Not published; white is our rendering choice for the reference frame; head 70 to 80 percent of the photo height. Photo taken within the last 6 months. Last verified 2026-10-10 against Ministère de l'Intérieur, République de Djibouti - 'Citoyenneté' service page and the Direction de la Population et de la Famille page, with the ICAO Doc 9303 Part 3 reference frame.
For a Djiboutian passport issued under the Ministère de l'Intérieur, as a reference only: the ministry's site names the passport among the titles it delivers but publishes no document list, photo rule or word on who takes the picture, so the frame, head band and background here are the ICAO Doc 9303 defaults. Not for the Djibouti e-Visa, whose upload rule is published (separate page here), nor for the biometric identity card.
Check with the Djibouti passport office before making a photo: the Ministry of the Interior publishes no passport photo rule, so our 35 x 45 mm ICAO print is a reference only. See the Djibouti documents we can prepare.

What trips people up
- CheckThe ministry names the title but not the file: its 'Citoyenneté' page says 'Il a aussi pour mission la protection de l'identité des personnes en assurant la délivrance des titres les plus importants : passeport, carte nationale d'identité, permis de conduire, certificat d'immatriculation.' and stops there. No passport requirement list, fee or photo rule is on the site.
- CheckThe identity card hint: the Direction de la Population et de la Famille page says the national identity card requires 'la présence en personne du demandeur' with the parents' identity documents, the birth certificate, 'des photos d'identité' and other supporting papers - prints with no count or size. Whether the passport office also wants prints is not written anywhere we could read.
- CheckVisas are a different story: foreigners apply on evisa.gouv.dj and upload a JPG or PNG photograph of at most 250 KB (see our Djibouti e-Visa page).
- CheckICAO reference frame: 'Submitted portraits should be 45.0 mm x 35.0 mm (1.77 in x 1.38 in) in dimension.' with the head 70 to 80 per cent of the height and a plain light background - use it only if the passport office or an embassy asks for a print.
- CheckICAO recency: 'A submitted portrait shall have been captured within the last six months before application', and portraits older than three months 'should not be accepted' where the issuer is strict.
