Dominican Passport Photo (taken at the Pasaportes office; ICAO 35 x 45 mm reference): size and requirements
The Dominican Passport Photo size is 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 inches). Para asegurar un buen contraste con el fondo blanco (the office's white background, stated in its clothing rule); head 70 to 80 percent of the photo height. Photo taken within the last 6 months. Last verified 2026-10-10 against Dirección General de Pasaportes de la República Dominicana, 'Renovación de pasaporte para adultos por vencimiento', with the ICAO Doc 9303 Part 3 reference frame.
For a Dominican passport applied for or renewed in person at a Dirección General de Pasaportes office after booking online, by Dominican adults (the minors' and naturalised-citizens' pages follow the same procedure). The office photographs you at the counter and publishes only appearance rules for that capture, so this page is a reference frame. Not for a Dominican visa, which takes a 2 x 2 inch print, nor for the cédula or a driving licence.
Book the appointment, bring the listed documents and let the office capture your image, dressed to its appearance rules. See the Dominican Republic documents we can prepare.

What trips people up
- CheckThe office takes the picture: step 4 is 'Suministrar los documentos requeridos para la captura de datos, huellas dactilares y firma.' and step 5 'La fotografía se tomará en la oficina correspondiente.' (the photograph will be taken at the office). No print is in the requirements list (printed appointment, birth certificate with QR code, valid cédula, payment proof, old booklet).
- CheckNo glasses at all: 'Sin anteojos: No se permiten anteojos de sol, lentes de contacto ni los de seguridad o graduados, ya que pueden obstruir los rasgos faciales.' (no sunglasses, contact lenses, safety or prescription glasses).
- CheckDress for the white background: 'Vestimenta: Ropa de calle de color oscuro para asegurar un buen contraste con el fondo blanco y hombros cubiertos (no uniforme).' (dark street clothes, shoulders covered, no uniform).
- CheckWhen to renew for a new look: only after a significant change (facial surgery or trauma, large new facial piercings or tattoos, big weight change, drastic changes in a child's face); a beard, dyed hair or normal ageing does not require a new passport.
- CheckCost and speed: 'Normal: RD$ 6,700.00 *Urgencia: RD$ 4,000.00 adicional' and 'Normal: 72 horas Urgencia: 2 horas, si solicita antes de las 01:00 PM.'; offices open Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; appointments at citas-e.pasaportes.gob.do.
- CheckEverything geometric here (35 x 45 mm, 70-80 % head, six months) is the ICAO Doc 9303 reference, flagged as such; the office publishes appearance rules, not a photo format, because its camera sets it.
