Ecuadorian Passport Photo (taken at the Registro Civil agency; ICAO 35 x 45 mm reference): size and requirements

The Ecuadorian Passport Photo size is 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 inches). Not published; white is our rendering choice for the reference frame; head 70 to 80 percent of the photo height. Photo taken within the last 6 months. Last verified 2026-10-10 against Dirección General de Registro Civil, Identificación y Cedulación (DIGERCIC), trámite 'Emisión de Pasaporte Ordinario por Primera Vez o Renovación para mayores de 18 años' on gob.ec, with the ICAO Doc 9303 Part 3 reference frame.

For an Ecuadorian ordinary electronic passport issued for the first time or renewed in person at a Registro Civil agency by adults over 18 (the under-18 sheet follows the same procedure with the parents). The agency captures the photograph with the fingerprints and signature and publishes no photo format, so this page is a reference frame. Not for the cédula, an Ecuadorian visa (which is filed online with its own photo rule) or a driving licence.

Pay the USD 90 fee, go to an agency with your cédula and let the Registro Civil capture your image, fingerprints and signature. See the Ecuador documents we can prepare.

What trips people up

  • Check
The agency takes the picture: step 3 is 'Recibir atención para la validación de datos en el sistema, captura de huellas dactilares, toma de foto y captura de firma en el área de pasaportes.' (data validation, fingerprint capture, photo and signature at the passport desk). The requirement list is the payment receipt, 'Cédula de Identidad física o digital vigente y legible.', the lost-document form if applicable and the old passport if still valid; no print.
  • Check
No appointment: 'Canales de atención: Presencial.' - pay first (Registro Civil agencia virtual, a correspondent bank or the bank desk inside the agency), then walk in. Quito Matriz, Guayaquil Gobierno Zonal and Cuenca San Blas print the booklet the same day; other agencies take 24 to 72 hours, Galápagos 12 to 15 days.
  • Check
Fee: '$90,00. Pasaporte electrónico, no grava IVA'; free for citizens with a disability of 30 % or more ('Está exento de pago en casos de ciudadanos con discapacidad del 30% o más.') and half price for seniors ('Aplica tarifa preferencial equivalente al 50% del costo de la tarifa general para personas de la tercera edad.'). A third issue within a year carries a surcharge under Art. 109 of the Movilidad Humana regulation.
  • Check
Validity and collection: 'La vigencia del documento de viaje es de 10 años.' and 'El usuario tiene un plazo de hasta 90 días calendario desde la fecha de la captura de datos para retirar su pasaporte.'
  • Check
Everything geometric here (35 x 45 mm, 70-80 % head, six months) is the ICAO Doc 9303 reference, flagged as such; the Registro Civil publishes no photo format because its camera sets it.
