Salvadoran Passport Photo (no print listed by the DGME; ICAO 35 x 45 mm reference): size and requirements

The Salvadoran Passport Photo size is 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 inches). Not published; white is our rendering choice for the reference frame; head 70 to 80 percent of the photo height. Photo taken within the last 6 months. Last verified 2026-10-10 against Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería de El Salvador (DGME), passport FAQ, 'Emisión de pasaporte por primera vez' and 'Solicitud y pago de renovación de pasaporte ordinario en línea', with the ICAO Doc 9303 Part 3 reference frame.

For a Salvadoran ordinary passport issued for the first time or renewed at a Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería branch, by adults with their DUI and by children with both parents, and for the online renewal that adults inside El Salvador file at pasaporteenlinea.migracion.gob.sv. The DGME lists no photograph for either route and issues the booklet in about 20 minutes, so this page is a reference frame, not a published format. Not for the DUI, a Salvadoran visa or a driving licence.

Go to a branch with your DUI and the USD 25 fee (or file the online renewal) and let the DGME capture your image. Ask the branch first if you still want to bring a print. See all El Salvador documents.

What trips people up

  • Check
No photo is on the list. Adults bring 'Documento Único de Identidad (DUI) vigente y en original.' and 'Comprobante de pago.'; renewals add the expired or expiring passport. Children add the birth certificate (only if data changed, for renewals) and 'Ambos padres deben estar presentes con el niño, niña o adolescente.'
  • Check
Issued while you wait: 'Plazo de entrega: 20 minutos aproximadamente.' and 'El tiempo promedio ronda los 20 minutos, dependiendo de la demanda de la sucursal.' We read this as the branch capturing your image; the DGME never says so in words, so it is our inference.
  • Check
Online renewal (adults over 18 inside the country): 'Realiza el llenado de la solicitud de pasaporte en línea conforme a lo que se te indique y anexa los documentos de justificación (si es el caso).', pick a branch, pay USD 25 and choose branch collection or home delivery (extra cost). The steps list no photo upload; what the Identidad Digital login shows after sign-in was not read.
  • Check
A second consecutive loss costs triple ($75.00) plus the $25.00 passport.
  • Check
