Hungary photo requirements

Hungary photo requirements are set by Government windows (kormányablak) and Hungarian consular offices, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (mfa.gov.hu). We publish 2 documents: 1 passport and 1 visa. The most common print size is 35 x 45 mm (1.38 in x 1.77 in). Each page quotes the official rule for size, head height, background and file, links the source we read, and shows the date we last checked it (most recently 2026-10-10).

Passports

Hungarian Passport Photo (taken at the counter; ICAO 35 x 45 mm reference)For a Hungarian passport (magánútlevél) applied for in person at a kormányablak in Hungary or at a Hungarian consular office abroad, by Hungarian citizens including children. The photo is captured electronically at the counter, so this page is a reference only. Not for the personal identity card, a visa or a driving licence.35 x 45 mmnot statedverified 2026-10-10

Visas

Hungary Schengen Visa Photo (1 passport-size colour photo, within 6 months; ICAO reference)For the photo attached to a short-stay Schengen (C) visa application lodged at a Hungarian consulate or an external service provider, by nationals who need a visa for Hungary. The ministry publishes no size or head rule, so the frame is the ICAO Doc 9303 reference. Not for a long-stay (D) visa or residence permit, which follow separate lists, and not for a Hungarian passport.35 x 45 mmnot statedverified 2026-10-10
