For the photo attached to a passport (or national ID) application by a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan inside the country, filed online on eGov or at a 'Government for Citizens' Public Corporation branch (gov.kz service 3087). The page names a photo 'in accordance with the Rules' but publishes no geometry, so the frame is the ICAO Doc 9303 reference. Not for applications at embassies abroad (see kz/passport-abroad) or a Kazakh e-visa.

What trips people up
- CheckThe online route uploads a photo: 'Fill out the application, attach a sample photo and signature, in accordance with the Rules, and sign it with a digital signature'. The Rules are a separate legal act we did not read, so no size, pixel or file limit is confirmed here; the frame is the ICAO default.
- CheckOnline only near expiry: 'The service is provided online if there are 30 or fewer calendar days left before the expiration of the identity card or if the identity card has expired by no more than 10 calendar days.' Otherwise you attend a Public Corporation branch, whose counter photo practice the page does not describe.
- CheckYou also need permanent registration and an unchanged name and date of birth to use the portal; otherwise 'it is necessary to contact NAO GC'.
- CheckTurnaround: 'Upon addressing to the State corporation or to the portal- no more than 15 working days', with paid urgent categories down to one working day in the big cities.

The crown-to-chin portion of the facial image shall be 70 to 80 per cent of the longest dimension defined for Zone V, maintaining the aspect ratio between the crown-to-chin and ear-to-ear details of the face of the holder.
