Lithuanian Passport Photo (no readable national rule; ICAO 35 x 45 mm reference): size and requirements

The Lithuanian Passport Photo size is 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 inches). Not read; white is our rendering choice for the reference frame; head 70 to 80 percent of the photo height. Photo taken within the last 6 months. Last verified 2026-10-10 against Migracijos departamentas prie Lietuvos Respublikos vidaus reikalų ministerijos (Migration Department under the Ministry of the Interior), MIGRIS service list for citizens, with the ICAO Doc 9303 Part 3 reference frame standing in for the rule we could not read.

For a Lithuanian passport (Lietuvos Respublikos pasas) issued by the Migration Department to Lithuanian citizens through MIGRIS and its branches, as a reference only: the department's pages were unreadable to us and the one line we did read says biometric data are scanned by the department, so the frame, head band and every other value here are the ICAO Doc 9303 defaults. Not for the identity card, a Lithuanian visa or a driving licence.

Ask the Migration Department (MIGRIS or your branch) whether they photograph you or want a file, and in what format; this ICAO-shaped file is a starting point, not the Lithuanian rule. See all Lithuania documents.

What trips people up

  • Check
No Lithuanian photo rule was read: MIGRIS renders only its service headings and a login FAQ to our reader, migracija.lrv.lt sits behind a Cloudflare check (its archived copies hold design and fee pages only) and urm.lt returns 403. Everything on this page is the ICAO Doc 9303 reference, flagged as such.
  • Check
The department scans you: MIGRIS lists the passport twice, the second variant being 'Lietuvos Respublikos pasas (nuo biometrinių duomenų nuskaitymo nepraėjo 6 mėn.)' (passport where less than six months have passed since the biometric data were scanned). That a facial image is captured at the branch is our inference from that line, not a quoted rule.
  • Check
The identity card is offered the same way: 'Asmens tapatybės kortelė (nuo biometrinių duomenų nuskaitymo nepraėjo 6 mėn.)', so expect the same counter capture for both documents.
  • Check
ICAO reference frame: 'Submitted portraits should be 45.0 mm x 35.0 mm (1.77 in x 1.38 in) in dimension.' with the head 70 to 80 per cent of the height and a plain light background.
  • Check
ICAO recency: 'A submitted portrait shall have been captured within the last six months before application', and portraits older than three months 'should not be accepted' where the issuer is strict.
