Mauritania Passport Photo (ANRPTS file lists NNI and fee, no photograph; ICAO 35 x 45 mm reference): size and requirements
The Mauritania Passport Photo size is 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 inches). Not published; white is our rendering choice for the reference frame; head 70 to 80 percent of the photo height. Photo taken within the last 6 months. Last verified 2026-10-10 against Agence Nationale du Registre des Populations et des Titres Sécurisés (ANRPTS), Ministère de l'Intérieur, de la Décentralisation et du Développement Local, Mauritania - 'Titres sécurisés: Procédures d'obtention d'un passeport biométrique', with the ICAO Doc 9303 Part 3 reference frame.
For a Mauritanian biometric passport (passeport biométrique) requested at an ANRPTS Centre d'Accueil des Citoyens, as a reference only: the agency's procedure lists the Numéro National d'Identification and the fee for a first passport, a renewal or a replacement and names no photograph, while its civil-status pages describe biometric enrolment at the centre - so the frame, head band and background here are the ICAO Doc 9303 defaults. Not for a Mauritanian online visa (no photo rule readable) nor for the national identity card.
Ask your ANRPTS reception centre before making a photo: Mauritania's passport procedure lists only the NNI and the fee and the agency enrols biometrics itself, so our 35 x 45 mm ICAO print is a reference only. See all Mauritania documents.

What trips people up
No photograph is listed.
- CheckRenewal and replacement: a renewal needs the validity 'expirée ou inférieure à 6 mois' and the same NNI and fee; a replacement for loss, damage or a plausible reason (correction, insufficient validity) adds a loss declaration or the damaged document and stamp duties on a sliding scale - 4.000 new ouguiyas for a first loss, 5.500 for the second, 7.500 for the third, 10 000 for the fourth.
- CheckBiometrics at the centre: the civil-status procedures on the same site say that after approval 'on procéde à l'enrôlement biométriques du demandeur', and the identity-card obstacles list mentions fingerprints that cannot be captured at the registration station - so the agency captures biometric data itself; whether the passport image is taken there too, or a print is wanted, is not written.
- CheckBefore any title you need an NNI (Numéro National d'Identification) from the population register; applicants are told to check that name, birth date, birthplace and sex match the register, otherwise the title is not validated or printed.
- CheckICAO reference frame: 'Submitted portraits should be 45.0 mm x 35.0 mm (1.77 in x 1.38 in) in dimension.' with the head 70 to 80 per cent of the height and a plain light background - use it only if an ANRPTS centre or a Mauritanian mission asks for a print.
