Senegal Passport Photo (Ministère de l'Intérieur: 3 colour ID photos; ICAO 35 x 45 mm reference): size and requirements
The Senegal Passport Photo size is 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 inches). Not published; white is our rendering choice for the reference frame; head 70 to 80 percent of the photo height. Last verified 2026-10-10 against Ministère de l'Intérieur et de la Sécurité publique du Sénégal, Direction générale de la Police nationale - 'Passeport ordinaire' service sheet (Services aux usagers).
For the three colour identity photographs listed by the Ministère de l'Intérieur et de la Sécurité publique for an ordinary Senegalese passport (passeport ordinaire) - first issue from birth, or renewal once after the 4-year validity - filed at the commissariat de police of your home (in Dakar by appointment after paying at the Enregistrement et Timbre) or at a Senegalese embassy abroad. The sheet publishes the count only, so the frame, background and head band here are the ICAO reference. Not for the carte nationale d'identité biométrique, whose sheet lists no photograph.

What trips people up
No size, background, head rule or age limit is published; the ICAO values here are ours.
- CheckThree prints, colour: the sheet asks for 3, not the usual 2, so print a third copy. The ministry's sheet does not say whether the office also captures your image; bring the prints anyway, as listed.
- CheckCost and timing: 'Le coût du passeport est de 20 000 FCFA.' paid to the Direction de l'Enregistrement, des Domaines et du Timbre before you apply; processing '2 semaines.' with pupils, students and medical evacuations handled first; 'La durée de validité d'un passeport est de 4 ans.' renewable once on presentation of the old passport and a new 20 000 FCFA receipt. No duplicate is issued for a lost or stolen passport - declare the loss and start again.
- CheckWhere: 'Dans le commissariat de police dont relève votre domicile.' In Dakar you first pay at the Enregistrement et Timbre, then book the commissariat appointment through the Africatel AVS voice server (about 400 FCFA per call) quoting the receipt number; waits run from 2 to 25 days. Senegalese abroad apply at the embassy covering their country of residence.
- CheckMinors: add a parental authorisation, a certified copy of the father's or mother's identity card and a certificat de prise en charge from the mairie or the court. 'Tout citoyen sénégalais peut, dès la naissance, demander un passeport ordinaire.'
- CheckThe ministry's services list shows only 12 of its 24 sheets without JavaScript; the passport sheet was read from the site's own JSON API, so re-check the live page in a browser before you go.
