For a Slovak biometric passport (cestovný pas) applied for in person at a document department (oddelenie dokladov) of the Ministry of the Interior, by Slovak citizens including children. The ministry captures your facial image and signature electronically at the counter and explicitly says no photograph is needed, so this page is a reference frame only. Not for the identity card, a Slovak visa or a driving licence.
Attend the document department in person and let the clerk capture your face. Use this page only to check how you will look under passport rules. See all Slovakia documents.

What trips people up
- CheckNo photo at all: 'Pracovníci oddelení dokladov nasnímajú podobu tváre a podpis v elektronickej forme priamo pri podaní žiadosti - nie je potrebná fotografia.' (department staff capture the facial image and signature electronically when the application is filed; no photograph is needed).
- CheckYou must attend: 'Občania musia byť pri podaní žiadosti o vydanie cestovného pasu osobne prítomní.' (citizens must be present in person when applying). There is no postal or online route that would take a file from you.
- CheckBiometric since 2008: 'Od 15. januára 2008 sa na oddeleniach dokladov vydávajú nové cestovné pasy s biometriou.' with the facial image as the first biometric ('Prvým biometrickým údajom je podoba tváre.') and fingerprints added on 22 June 2009.
- CheckEverything on this page is the ICAO Doc 9303 reference frame, flagged as such: 'Submitted portraits should be 45.0 mm x 35.0 mm (1.77 in x 1.38 in) in dimension.' Use it only to rehearse the counter photo (plain expression, no glare, nothing covering the face).
- CheckThe ministry page saved here covers applications at document departments in Slovakia; the procedure at Slovak missions abroad (mzv.sk) was not read, so ask the mission whether it captures the image or wants a print.
