Uganda Passport Photo (image captured at the passport centre; ICAO 35 x 45 mm reference): size and requirements

The Uganda Passport Photo size is 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 inches). Not published; white is our rendering choice for the reference frame; head 70 to 80 percent of the photo height. Photo taken within the last 6 months. Last verified 2026-10-10 against Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC), Ministry of Internal Affairs, Uganda - 'Ordinary Passport' and 'Renewal/Replacement of Passport' pages, with the ICAO Doc 9303 Part 3 reference frame.

For an ordinary Ugandan e-passport applied for on the DCIC Passport Portal (passports.go.ug), as a reference only: the Directorate's document lists for adults and minors name no photograph and the last step sends you to the selected passport centre 'for enrollment', so we read that the centre captures your image; the frame and head band here are the ICAO Doc 9303 defaults. Not for a Ugandan visa, which needs an uploaded passport-size photograph (separate page here).

The Directorate's document lists name no photo and the passport centre enrols you in person; our 35 x 45 mm ICAO frame is only a reference if a mission asks for a print. See the Uganda documents we can prepare.

What trips people up

  • Check
No print is on the list: the ordinary-passport requirements are 'National ID or National Identification Number', 'Recommendation Letter and Recommender National ID' and 'Documents supporting your profession (if applicable)'; minors add a birth certificate, the parents' NID and passports, a consent letter and, if adopted, the High Court adoption order. Step 9 is to 'Report to the selected passport Centre with the passport appointment form with the appropriate application requirements displayed on the website, for enrollment.' - the page never says 'photo', so the capture at the centre is our reading of 'enrollment'.
  • Check
The route is online first: 'Applications are done online through the DCIC Passport Portal.' - accept the disclaimer, answer the security questions, complete the form, print the Payment Advice Form, pay at the bank, schedule the appointment and print the Appointment Form. passports.go.ug itself is a JavaScript app that showed us nothing without a browser.
  • Check
Fees: 'Ordinary Passports cost 250,000 UGX.' and 'Express Processing Fee an extra 150,000 UGX paid separately in a bank.' Renewal and replacement cost the same UGX 250,000 (bank charges exclusive) and need the appointment form, National Identity Card, old passport and a recommender's letter with a copy of their National ID.
  • Check
Change of names or other particulars: a written explanation to the Passport Control Officer plus a copy of the National ID with the name clearly appearing, same UGX 250,000 fee.
  • Check
ICAO reference frame: 'Submitted portraits should be 45.0 mm x 35.0 mm (1.77 in x 1.38 in) in dimension.' with the head 70 to 80 per cent of the height and a plain light background - only for a Ugandan mission or office that asks for a print.
