Uganda Visa Photo (e-Immigration portal upload: recent passport-size photograph): size and requirements

The Uganda Visa Photo size is 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 inches), or 413 x 531 pixels for online upload. Not published; white is our rendering choice for the reference frame; head 70 to 80 percent of the photo height. Photo taken within the last 6 months. Last verified 2026-10-10 against Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC), Uganda - 'Uganda Tourist Visa - single entry' requirements, attachments and steps, with the ICAO Doc 9303 Part 3 reference frame.

For the 'Recent Passport-size Photograph' attached to a Ugandan visa application on the DCIC e-Immigration portal (visas.immigration.go.ug) - single-entry tourist, business, student and family-visit categories, USD 50 - before biometric capture at the border or immigration office. The Directorate publishes no size, background or file rule, so the frame and head band here are the ICAO reference. Not for a Ugandan passport, for which the centre captures the image.

What trips people up

  • Check
The attachment lists are the whole rule: tourism needs the passport bio-data page (6 months' validity), tour plan, itinerary or booking, a 'Recent Passport-size Photograph' and the hotel booking or an address; business adds the invitation letter and asks for a 'Recent Passport-size Photograph taken in the last 6 months'; students list a 'Recent passport size photograph' with the school's letters, family visitors a 'Recent Passport-size Photograph' plus the host's status. No size, background or file format is published - our 35 x 45 mm, 413 x 531 px JPEG is the ICAO reference.
  • Check
Upload, then biometrics: Step 5 is 'Upload the required documents; a six-digit application ID eg. (234790123) is automatically generated as the reference number', and Step 9 'Report to the immigration office/ border for biometric capture with all documents uploaded, payment receipts, approval letter and passport' - the uploaded photo supports the file, the live capture happens on arrival.
  • Check
Fees and validity: 'The visas cost USD 50.' (non-refundable, bank charge on top); 'Visa Approval Authorisation validity is 90 days (three months) from the day of Approval.' - travel within three months or apply again; the initial stay can be extended for another 60 days in two intervals.
  • Check
'Language; all documents attached should be in English.' and 'Other documents may be required during the process'.
  • Check
The portal visas.immigration.go.ug is a JavaScript app behind a CAPTCHA warning, so its own upload limits (file size, pixel count) could not be read; keep the file small (under 1 MB is a safe habit) and re-check the form in a browser.

Good to know before you pay

Any recent passport-size photo file will do for the portal; use ours when you want a clean white background and a standard 35 x 45 mm frame from a phone photo.
