Free passport photo checker

Pick the document, then a photo. The checker finds your face, frames it the way the document asks, and runs every automatic check our photo tool uses: head size and eye line, head tilt and turn, eyes, expression, lighting, sharpness, background and resolution. Each row shows the measured value next to the allowed one.

Runs in your browser; your photo never leaves your device.

Choose the document, then a photo. The verdict and every measured value appear here.

How it works

  1. Choose the document you need the photo for; its rules come from the official source quoted on its requirements page.
  2. Choose a photo. The face model (a few MB) downloads once from this site and runs in your browser.
  3. The checker frames the face to the document's head-size rule, samples the pixels and runs the same checks /make runs.
  4. Read the verdict and each row. Rows that fail tell you what to change; a closed eye or a turned head needs a new photo.

Limits and when not to use this tool

  • A verdict here is a measurement against the rules we quote, not an acceptance decision; the authority that receives the photo decides.
  • The checker runs the same automatic checks as /make/ on an untouched automatic crop; it does not fix anything and does not check a photo that is already cropped against a printed layout.
  • Photos with no face, more than one face, or a file the browser cannot open are reported as errors rather than judged.
  • Where an authority says photos must be taken by a studio or official, the checker says so and points to the requirements page instead of offering the paid flow.
