Passport Online (Ireland): known issues

Passport Online (Ireland) is the portal in Ireland used for Irish Passport Photo. We list 3 messages it shows when a photo upload fails, why each appears and what to change before uploading again, each traced to the portal's own wording or a verified user report. The portal and its staff make the final decision on every photo.

Messages and what to do

  1. Too close / too far away

First step: Stand so the frame shows the top of the head down to mid torso.

  2. Photo cannot be cropped, enlarged, enhanced or changed

First step: Use the photo exactly as the camera saved it.

  3. Place the face in the oval (babies and toddlers)

First step: Drag the photo so the face sits roughly inside the oval.
