What trips people up

  • Check
    The Polizia di Stato wants a WHITE background for the passport, while the CIE page prefers light blue, beige, light brown, light grey or white. Use white for the passport so one print works for both.
  • Check
    The Polizia di Stato measures the face 70 to 80 percent 'dalla base del mento alla fronte' and states no eye line; the 23 to 31 mm eye height is the CIE acquisition rule, which we apply here because the Interior Ministry says the CIE photo is in the same format as the passport photo. A crop with the eyes high in the frame fails that check even when the head size is right.
  • Check
    The CIE specification bans cropping to remove the background or to straighten the head, and any retouching or colouring (né può essere ritoccata, colorata o manomessa); hand in the unaltered frame.
  • Check
    No coloured or heavy-framed glasses; tilt the head slightly to avoid flash reflections on the lenses, and keep the frame off the eyes.
