Norway photo requirements

Norway photo requirements are set by Politiet (Norwegian Police), pass- og ID-kontor. We publish 6 documents: 2 passports, 1 ID card, 1 driving licence, 1 residence permit and 1 visa. The most common print size is 35 x 45 mm (1.38 in x 1.77 in). Each page quotes the official rule for size, head height, background and file, links the source we read, and shows the date we last checked it (most recently 2026-10-07).

Passports

Norwegian Passport Photo (pass, taken by Politiet at the pass- og ID-kontor)For an ordinary Norwegian passport applied for at a police pass- og ID-kontor or a Norwegian mission abroad, where the police photograph you in the biometrics kiosk. Norwegian Emergency Passport Photo (nødpass, colour photo from a photographer or booth)For the colour passport photo you must bring to the pass- og ID-kontor when applying for a nødpass, the temporary passport valid for one imminent trip. Visas

Norway Visa Photo (visitor visa, photographed at the mission)For a Schengen visitor visa to Norway applied for through a Norwegian foreign service mission or its visa application centre, where UDI says the mission photographs you. ID cards

Norwegian National ID Card Photo (nasjonalt ID-kort, taken by Politiet)For the nasjonalt ID-kort issued by Politiet to Norwegian citizens and, without travel rights, to foreign nationals with a Norwegian fødselsnummer, photographed in the kiosk at the pass- og ID-kontor. Driving licences
